alittle about my boat....
i bought my bayliner 2 years ago, in the fall, not knowing crap about boats other than my 10' john boat and minkota trollin motor got me to all my fishin holes back in missouri, now in the pacific northwest if you dont have a BOAT you aint gonna catch no fish! lol... so this boat cost me $800 an 87 bayliner capri 1750 bow rider and a ford 2.3 liter and cobra outdrive, escort galvanised trailer, no rot, didnt run when i bought it, guys at work told me what to look for when i looked at it, owner did complete tune up, plugs wires cap, rotor, coil, but he could not get spark, and was fed up, so i buy it and get it home and tinker with it, he was right, no spark, my uncle came to my rescue and said he didnt change points and condensor,ha i said what are points? $20.00 later the boat fired right up! man did i score! whoo hooo! changed oil and bought a few things from ebay, if i may say, i have a pretty nice boat for $800! ran it all last summer, no probs. until 2 bolts snapped off of the exhaust manifold riser, then i started to learn a heck of alot more about fords omc 2.3l. uugghh! thats another thread i think, will swap with a gm for sure soon, or sell and buy a boat with a gm!, so fixed that issue and ran it atleast 6 or 7 more times before putting it up for winter, no issues at all, i filled it up with fresh fuel, put stabil in tank, drained all water, disconnected all hoses and freeze plugs and pet cocks, i did not change the oil tho. or run the carb out of fuel, sigh..... i put it away in november and brought it home first week of march, it doesnt freeze here in oregon, although we had a two week freak streatch of horrible temps uncommon to this area, but was stored inside a huge metal enclosed barn for the months, i brought it home and it would not start, i orderd tune up kit from iboats among other things, and still wont fire, it seem im not getting spark, tried alil starting fluid, no sputter, i only have the selock book, iknow iknow,, i am looking for the OMC manual! ... but from what the manual refs. i did everything correct, i checked the shift assist, fuses on /around engine, under dash, put new fuel filters in, the kill/lanyard switch is all disconnected, i did not get a dist. cap or new coil,or wires, didnt think it needed it. maybe it does,
is it possiable i didnt get my points gapped correctly? and if not gapped correct it will not give spark? is this correct? im sure i put the new ones on eyeballing the gap of the old ones...to the new set... but old ones didnt even look that bad, replaced with new condensor anyways, or might my coil gone bad? what will make this NO SPARK occure when it only sat for a few months? it ran fine before putting it in the barn?
im checking spark with the old screwdriver plug wire method,, dont have a voltmeter yet... while peering back from the drivers seat. lol... my uncle is out of state at this time... im still a newbie, doing my own brakes and tuneups in my driveway, any help is appreciated! thank you all! im sorry i missed the spring salmon run! ggrrrrr...
