87' 40hp evinrude wont stay running

my 87 40hp envinrude starts rite up but after about 5 seconds it stalls out unless i choke it. i think the jets may be clogged because it did not hit the water last season. how hard is it to clean the jets on this motor. i hav the manual but it only tells how to assemble/reassemble it. thanx

Welcome to iboats. It's not tough, just take your time. Get a rebuild kit from your local dealer. When you take the carb apart make absolutely sure that you get all the jets and passages cleaned out with compressed air. You may want to soak it overnight in a good carb cleaner.
