'87 140 Looper Flywheel?

To re-torque the flywheel nut (140 ft-lbs), is it ok to lock the prop with a block of wood to keep crank from rotating or will I damage the gears in the lower unit?

I wouldn't. You need a flywheel turner (NAPA < $30) or some other means of holding the flywheel while torquing.
