Noticed last couple times out that volt guage was only reading 11-12 when normal is above 13 and higher rpms up to 15, but now it varies not getting above 12 no matter the rpm then next time you start it up it's working normal. Now the fun begins. Last couple times out motor has quit at 30 mph (1 time)then started right up, refused to start(5) after fishing a spot for 10 to 40 minutes, and quit at idle trolling(1). Have got it going after each episode but sometimes it is 30 minutes later. Is this a classic stater problem? Have an appointment to get it checked next week but service rep. said might be hard to find if it doesn't act up for them. Thought if it is the stater for sure I'll just replace it myself and save the labor charges but don't want to spend $200 on the stater if it could be something else.

If you already know how to replace the stator, beg, borrow ,buy meter, and check the ignition system. Black coils&packs old system, blue coils&packs later system.

I read alot of other posts so I thought I better do a compression test before I start anything else -bad news- my 4 readings were 150-75-150-150. Is this most of my problem?? any clues?

Your compression indicates a second problem. Basically your running on 3 cylinders with an electrical problem to boot. Could it be trade in time?
