86' Volvo 275 Tilt Motor Rebuildible?

I tested and re-tested the tilt motor out of my volvo penta 275 I/O, and it doesn't do anything when I hook up the 2 wires directly to a battery, either way.

Is this motor rebuildible? Are there any kits out there to rebuild it? Anyone here ever done it?

Thanks!

Does it work if you hook up power directly to the motor? (this will let you know if the motor is bad)

There's a relay in the unit. Probably bad. #29

That's what I was saying, I hooked up the two wires coming directly from the motor to a good, fully charged battery. And nothing happens.

Anyone know if this motor can be rebuilt?

Remove the motor and try it. The gears could be frozen and not letting the motor turn.
To answer your question, no, there are no motor rebuild kits available. But an electric motor shop may be able to repair it.

Thanks for the help guys, I decided to take the suggestion from captmello and just order the new one. The Iboats mall had the lowest price that I could find.

So I love the new tilt motor, but it only works in one direction. I double checked the new motor, so I know it works both ways when connected directly to a battery.

Does the relay mentioned by tbear1964 control both up and down? Or are there other relays that I need to worry about? Obviously it could just be the switch on the dash too, wiring, etc.

One thing to check on these is the long bolts the go through the black box on the trim assembly. those bolts should not be tightened down anymore than necessary to keep the box from moving up and down. they should be loose enough for the box to spin. If overtightened it can effect the limit switch inside the box.

Have a look at the link.

#23 are the two bolts, #29 is the relay, there are two, #30 is the limit switch.

You may want to pop the cover off and make sure the limit switch isn't stuck or corroded. It has a button that clicks, you'll see.:)

Good luck!
