86 Evinrude 90hp VRO adjustment?

Is there any type of adjustment on a VRO system? I took my 86 90hp V-4 out for the first time and it seems to be pumping out quite a bit of smoke at an idle... I was just wondering if an oil pump or something could be stuck wide open causing it to run super rich? it was about 55 outside yesterday and the water temp was about 65 and everything ran great other than the clouds of smoke getting pumped out going down canals. maybe this is normal for this motor?? I am used to my 97xp, small older 2 strokes and some bigger 4 stroke outboards but maybe that?s just the way older larger 2 strokes go... let me know if there is anything I can check.

there's no adjustment. computer controlled, but they been known to fail. is it the vro or the vro 2. the original vro were problematic.

Does it smoke all the time at idle or just the first tinme you fire her up? Sometimes pressure builds up in the oil tank and oil bleeds into the carbs while the motor is sitting. The oil ration is controlled by pressure/vacuum pulses and regulated by the different sizes of the oil diaphram and pump chamber and the fuel diaphram and pump chamber size.
No computer on your motor.

it seems to do it even after a good run... although we only had it out for maybe an hour or so... it did not seem to smoke until it had been at idle for a few min... then it gave out a pretty good cloud. maybe next weekend ill take it out and pop the top on the oil tank first to make sure it is not pressurized

How do I tell if it is a VRO 1 or 2? would it be a good idea to replace the VRO pump on the motor with a new one just to be safe?

I was told this was an 86 but after looking at the model number it seems it may be a 1985 ( boat is an 86 ) model is E90MLCOS
