86 dt 115 little reverse problem

I have a 86 suzuki dt 115....It goes in to foward fine full throttle how ever I barely have enough reverse to get off the trailer or stop the boat any thoughts?? I don't want to dive in to heavy on this subject but I don't want the problem to get worse....

Unhook the linkage from the gear lever at the motor and see if you have any problems manually putting the motor in reverse. If you do then you will have dig into it and find your problem. If you don't have any issues then try adjusting your shift cable and see if that helps. Good Luck!

I was new to boating a year ago,I'm an auto tech 30 years . If you are going to work on your motor, get the suzuki manual. it explained everything I need to disassemble a back up motor, I misplaced the manual and tried for about an hour to firgue out how to get power head off. found the manual, had it in pieces in about 45 minutes.If you are going to do your own repairs GET THE MANUAL,then if you still have trouble you be able to follow along when someone is tring to help. good luck
