We are looking for general information about this boat and motor. Pros' & Con's, maintanance, cleaning, up-keep, any tips or tricks would be helpful. This will be our first boat and it will become a fishing boat for our purpose. We are in the process of buying it, and have had it for 2wks now. We just got the motor running Sunday after new plugs, wires, tune-up kit, and distributor cap. We dropped it in a stock tank to work on it, and that went great!

Originally boat was $1750 & we could make payments, so we went to look at it, & it wouldn't start. So it dropped to $1250 and told us to take it home for a couple weeks to try it out. We offered him $1000 yesterday since we found other problems. Blower does not work, just makes loud noise. Lights do not work, bilge pump did nothing, (we're going to check fuses to see if any are blown as a possible fix) Trim switch doesn't work up or down. When you push switch there is a click in engine compartment, but thats it. You can physically move drive up or down, it doesn't lock unless you use the metal bar to prop up drive.

Boat is solid, and has been covered and winterised every year. The motor did run great once we got it started. Then started everytime on the first turn-over. Any links that will be useful for our first time boat ownership would be awsome to. We did contact Bayliner and got the manuals sent to us. We also have VP engine book.

Thanks so much!

Well I don't have engine problems so I have no idea why this was moved to this section? I just wanted general information about this boat and motor. So I hope people who may own these boats will stumble upon it in here.

I don't understand this, ummm not sure what to say motor runs good.

Time to get the volt/ohm meter out and start testing. How can you run it with the non functioning trim?

Sorry, forgot to add some constructive words, the blower is an easy test fix. If it is getting volts at the connection points then it is the motor, which is the most likely suspect. Lights, of course check the bulbs. Check the grounds first, then I would go to the switches to test for power. I have a rear light that went out on me last year and it was not the bulb. I am just going to rewire it following the original path of wire. Nice price on the boat, I own a similar one. If you want to save a few $$$, only carry liability (and also recovery) for insurance). For $1000 boat chances are you will not be repairing any major damage.
