86/87 Evinrude 225 not revving up

New coils, wiring harness, starter, batteries. Engine fires right up and idles fine. It refuses to go past about 1900rpm, though. You put it in gear and run the throttle down and it just stops. Doesn't bog down or die, just won't rev any higher. Any ideas?

when were the carbs last gone thru. have you check compression, and spark, when it does this?

Unsure on the carbs. Thought about that, but it runs perfect across the board...just not going up. It never sputters or shows an erratic idle.

Compression is good. New plugs and wires, too.

Are all 6 of the throttle body butterflies opening? Is the timer base moving against the stop?

the butterflies were all opening 2 months ago. ill check on thursday again when i get a chance to get over to the storage spot. not sure on the timer base, thats something else to look at.

When you look at them pull the air box cover off and make sure the 2 bottom ones are OK.
