86,70hp evinrude carb problem

just bought a 1986 ,70 hp evinrude ,it starts and idles good,but when you try to speed up after a certain point it starts to shut off,unless you pull back on the throttle,you can also push on the choke button 5 or so times and then it will let you speed up and runs fine,untill you slow down again,,what could that be??

After you push the key in (engages the fuel primer solenoid), does the engine hit full throttle and stay there OR does it simply speed up a little?

Sounds like fouled carburetors.

yes it speeds up a little

If the "speeds up a little" is temporarily and the rpms dies down again...clean the carburetors.
