Yes, I have a 1987 DT85 with a similar history. Check and see if the head gasket looks like it has ever been replaced (check the paint on the cylinder head bolts). The stock head gaskets on the older (I don't know when they changed) engines had a hole at the top and bottom for water drainage, the new ones have a long slot. The holes in the old ones tended to corrode shut and block the exit of cooling water. When I removed my head the entire exit channel was occluded with corrosion. The new head gaskets will help with this. Also, sometimes the overheat sensor can be a little oversensitive and can be replaced.<br /><br />Others may have different opinions but I think if they are maintained the oil injection is reliable.
