85hp merc blue band dropping spark

Hey guys have a 85 merc 2 stroke. often is hard to start and would get out on water then would cut out after 5 mins. found that its dropping spark. found corroded wires everywere re wired everything, starts up but drops out again, today when it wouldnt start i shorted the wire on the bottom right of the switch box to ground and it got spark and fired up?? has a white box were the wire goes onto, not sure what this means? is it a faulty switch box?

Get on the CDIElectronics web site and look up the troubleshooting procedure for that motor. If it has a distributor and a single coil, it is a different system than the multi coil ignition.
