Re: 85hp force wont run high rpm backfires through top carb
Mike,
Glad to hear you were able to get your motor running properly again.
Here's what I have a major issue with and I seem to hear it a lot:
You paid $800 to have your motor worked on. You described the problem, they worked on it and you were given back the motor with the same problem you took it in for. So we can surmise that they DID NOT fix the problem. I have no idea why they did what they did to your motor in the first place, IF what you took it in for is e same thing that you described here.
I was an Auto Mechanic for almost 18 years. This BS would not have flown in any shop / dealer I ever worked in. I would have been the shop jackass if I had returned a vehicle to a customer with the same problem they brought it in for in the first place. Especially after charging them for what would now amount to UNNECESSARY repair work.
You can bet your last dollar that customer would be pitching a royal gripe. I would be forced to "own" that vehicle until it was fixed properly. Since my pay is based on a commission rate scale, it would be in my best interest to fix that vehicle PROPERLY and as fast as possible.
Still I hear people say; they charged me XYZ and my vehicle (in this case boat) still has the same problem. My advice is to go back and gripe until you get your money back. When they say, oh' but we'll fix it, tell them they already had their chance and you had to do it yourself. Now you want your money for the unnecessary repairs they preformed. You didn't say it was slow cranking or over heating. Did it have those problems also?
This stuff really burns my *** because I was made to "eat" so many bad repair jobs by other techs over the years. When I hear of someone with a legit gripe about being screwed over I want to go take up the fight for them, because I know how the game is played.
There is also state agencies specifically for handling these complaints and they're bulldogs. Every repair facility knows you don't want the state agency on your butt. Things get taken care of real fast when you call them. I've had to deal with them also.
Good luck, but I would want my $800 back. That's a healthy chunk of change.
