850 merc. no start

I really screwed up. I have a 1975 850 merc. and i have two batterys on the boat, well the worst thing that could happen did. I accidentally hooked them up so they would be 24 volts, not 12. The motor started then i noticed the amp gauge was pegged out and realized what was wrong and shut down. the motor was run for about 45 secs. when i hooked them up right the motor would not fire. what possible damage did i do to the motor? help

If it's a distributor model, you probably fried the switchbox. Hopefully the trigger in the distributor made it, as they're more spendy than the switchbox. <br /><br />There's an ign test you can perform for the distributor model, check some of the "no spark" type of threads and you should find it.
