I noticed in the gasket set that I ordered for rebuilding the 85 Evinrude v6 150hp, that there is a gasket that goes between the two pieces of the heads. Is there a reason to remove the bolts on the the head, and replace the gasket? Is there anything else between these two pieces of the aluminum?

Mik

It's nothing more than a water jacket. If your motor was badly scaled, you might want to take it apart and clean it, but a good soaking with vinegar usually accomplishes the same thing with a whole lot less work. Those gaskets about have to be chiseled off and it's nearly impossible to end-up with good gasket surfaces as a result. Most of the time, those gaskets are leftovers. Good luck with your rebuild.
