Well....Had to go tow my buddy in a couple days ago when he blew up his 40hrs tohatsu on the Pacific Ocean....

Looks like the oil pump went out and it siezed up pretty bad....He took it in yesterday and the mechanic said he had needle bearing parts in one cylinder and low compression on the other 2....

Dosen't look like its going to be economically worth it to rebuild the block with 3 bad cylinders.....

Is there anyone out there that will ship him a rebuilt block? Or is this a parts motor?......Appreciate any suggestions....

OIl pump failure is extremely rare, but can happen. If this is an old 40D series engine the cost of repair would exceed the value of the engine.

Yea.....I figured so, when I checked the oil reservoir it was over 3/4 full and he went 40+ miles.....

Is it possible to find a reconditioned powerhead anywhere for this outboard?

Probably not. If you look long enough I'm sure you will eventually find one in a pile with a busted up lower unit. Chances are the power head would be good on one of those. The 50 D and 40 D are compatible.
