85 sunrunner wit aq225d 5.0 engine gm. Distributor replacement.

I was told I needed a new distributor by the Marina as the old one was rusted and would not advance. What can I use to replace this with to be inexpensive and get rid of the breaker points? Or is there a way to rebuild the current one? Can I use an automotive replacement?

Oh I do not know that inexpensive, boat and volvo do not go together.

Is this a difficult procedure or cut and dry? Anything I should look out for in he conversion? I know to bring in the engine to tdc and line up the distributor in the same position as I removed it. Are there any electrical connections to be concerned about?

Cut and dry. It's what Volvo started using in 2001.

Quick question. I have access to a 350 chev mercruiser distributor. with points like my volvo. Would it work? I dont have my boat in front of me as it is 100 miles away to compare it.

Yes, it should work fine, if it's not in the same condition with rusty weights and springs.
