My 75hp. 4 cylinder mercury is putting out 17 volts . Is this charging voltage to high? I checked it with a reliable multimeter. I have also installed a new battery and rectifier.
Your ok..Just keep the battery fluid level topped off. These engines had rectifiers and not regulators. Turn somthing on to load up the battery and it will decrease your voltages.
