85 Mercury 115 No thrust!!

So I was out on the lake today, moving along at a decent rate of speed and out of nowhere the engine revs up real high and it loses pretty much all thrust.:(:(

At very low throttle the prop still turns so I was able to make it back to the dock.

However if you give it more gas the engine just revs and the boat does not speed up.

When the problem occurred I did not hear anything break.

The boat just came to a stop and the engine revved high. Anyone know what this might be?

I am fearing the lower unit is screwed but I was just wondering what kind of repair fees I'm looking at.

Definetly going to take it over to the shop to get it looked at on Monday.

Thanks,
Boatman:D

sounds better than a new LU, hopefully that is the problem. How can I tell if that is the problem, is it located behind the prop?

I'm having the same problem, can you let me know what's wrong with your motor when you find out? I was doing 55 yesterday and today I couldn't even do 15 mph. The motor was reving high at WOT, but my boat was barely moving...Thanks

Ther's a very good chance the prop hub is slipping and need to be replaced.

I will update once i find out the culprit.
I can already see this forum is going to be a valuable resource.:D:D

Rubber prop hub is shot, before spending $150 bucks for a new prop check at your local dealer, most of them rehub it for about $40-$50.
