85 mercury 115 no spark

I have a mercury 115 that I got and has turned out to be a nightmare. Well I got it back together and it has no spark in any cylinder. I got spec's today to check the trigger and stator (which I had a spare and it didn't help) There is also a box mounted on the front frame around the engine and the parts list calls it an idle control. it hooks into the switch boxes and I have not seen a thing about it. could this part be the cause? the engine sat for over tens years so does that shed any light on what might be the problem? Any tips on figuring out the problem would be great. Thanks

CDI Electronics web site has a troubleshooting procedure for your ADI Ignition. First test is to disconnect ign killer wires (black/yellow) at the power packs, and see if spark returns.

Idle stabilizer may be disconnected w/o issue.

I have tried that as well as installing a good stator. I checked the tilt cutout and that' fine. what's the box mounted in front of the carbs do? it's connected to the switch boxes as well.

So if I disconnect the idle box the 2 studs on the switch boxes will be connected together that's it. does that seem right? when I hooked everything back up I put things the same as when they came off.

It's the stud with the white/ black wire on it
