hello all, i am first time at this. i have bought a very well kept Winner 1900 cuddy. The engine is shot however, no fixing. i bought a new crate engine. i was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for advice, a manual or something i could use to assist in swapping the new engine for the old. i am new to boat motors but have operated a family farm for 20 years so i know how to turn a wrench. i bought this old boat for my wife and kid any help would be great.
thanks!!

the old motor is a 5.7l mercruiser v8, basically a gm 350, it is supposed to produce 260 hp. in my opinion its a bit overpowered for 19' boat. i bought a refurbished 5.7l from atlantic marine inc down in florida. they messed up the order and upgraded me to a new motor at no charge :).

You didn't mention what year.
Might be a problem going from pre 1995 to newer motor. The intake will be different if the old motor was pre-vortec. Might also have issues mounting ALT, power steering or such because some of the bolt holes may not be there. Newer motor uses electric fuel pump, old one is mounted to the block

So I'm guessing it will be basically take the parts off the old motor, check for functionality, and bolt them on new motor. The guy who sold me the boat said it shouldn't be too difficult but I should put the shifter in reverse before removing the outdrive, is that right?

Nope,.... When pullin' or installin' an Alpha drive, Everything has to be in Forward for things to line up properly,....

Check the gimbal bearing to coupler alignment with alignment bar. Grease the input shaft and coupler. There is no timing setting for motor to drive

I found one for $19 it is just the bar tho do I need all the other tools, bellows tool, gimbal seal and others

No not for alignment, those other tools are for as you say and many can be done with home made things

Do note word of warning, not all tools are made the same. There are some out there on ebay which are not made to correct tolerances. Look at their feedback so they have been there for a long time
