85 Merc 115 Power tilt/trim beeld procedure

Just replace and rerouted hoses on 115 Merc Tower. There 2 PTT cylinders. I am certain there is air from the control unit to the cylinders due to removing lines. How do I properly bleed this system? Thnak you for any help.

Hello and welcome to Iboats.

First off, are you sure of the year?? from 84 on the power trim/tilt was a single unit without hoses. It was mounted on the outside of the boat integrated with the transom mount. like in the picture.

To bleed the first generation system, you simply fill the pump, cycle all the way up and down a few times and fill to the top again, it's a self bleeding system.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Mine has 2 cylinders on the transom bracket and is id'd as "System A" (near as I can tell) in the shop manual. Is it self bleeding as well? Boat is 1984, don't know where I detmined motor was supposed to be 1985. Probably is 1984 or even 1983. Motor ID=#6412641. Here's a picture of the port side cylinder.....

Actually those systems have a bleeding procedure for each trim cylinder. If you still have play in the trim cylinders after cycling up/down a few times, post back for the procedure.

Comes up as an 83.
