This may be a silly question, but I have an 85 HP on a 1987 17' Bayliner and I was wondering how to keep the engine locked in the down position so it does not pick up out of the water when putting it in reverse and giving it quick throttle. Thanks for the help!

Re: 85 HP Question

I have the same boat & motor.. there is a nob on the bottom of the motor or right above the sterring mechanisim that flips back & forth, you'll see it just look in there & flip it & it will lock the motor in place, flip it back to unlock it, real simple

Re: 85 HP Question

Darn I knew it! Welcome to iBoats Sotbas
Please for future reference use the SEARCH at the top in red!

Also let me ask Uinthas is that for tilt/trim units too? Or only for manual tilt?

That knob is for manual tilt only. Hydraulic pressure holds the engine in position with a TNT equipped motor.

Re: 85 HP Question

Thanks for the help. I'll have to check it out when my boat comes out of its winter cocoon. Sorry about not using the search function! I should know better. I'm in a car forum and we say that to people all the time!!
