85 hp Johnson rebuild--- How much??????

Hi All,<br /> I have 2 questions:<br /> 1-I was wondering if someone could give a ball park figure on how much it would cost to rebuild an 1992 85hp Johnson. Is this something a do-it-yourselfer can do? I have access to a garage with tools, but I would have to get a manual for it. What does a dealer charge to rebuild a motor?<br />2- What would make a tach not work at all?<br /> Thanks for any and all info.... Larry

Alot of variables here buddy.How many of those holes need to be bored? Crank still good?Pistons needed?If you have the confidence and tools and manuals you can sure try this yourself.

Ahoy, Springer. Most tachs operate by counting pulses from the ignition system or charging system. If the wire feeding pulses to the tach opens up, or if the internal circuitry goes bad. . . the tach quits.<br /><br />Good luck.<br />Red sky at night. . . <br />JB
