Well, I was halfway through changing the impeller when the drive shaft slipped out part way. 
Urrgh! It appears that the lower pinion gear comes off when this happens. I am trying to remove the prop shaft/bearing housing in the lower end but it will not come out. What's the trick? Special puller? Do I even need to go this far?
