I am trying to figure this out, took the boat out yesterday. It free revs in neutral just fine in the water. under a load it will not go past 1800 rpm, if i give it more throttle in falls on its face and dies. Starts just fine after it dies with no issues. It only does it in the water on the muffs it will rev in gear to 5500. I am wondering what the test procedure would be to check the stator or the recifier. I looked on CDI's site but no specific info. I went through compression test and all are good. I did notice on the muffs the voltage at the crank battery drops from 12.4 nor running to 11.8 while running. I am a car guy but I would assume that it should read higher than that at the battery. Could this be my issue. woudl the stator charge the Thanks for help
