I just got a 115 this afternoon. I need a short schematic on wiring up the trim and controls. Hopefully I can post some compression #'s up tomorrow. It falls on its face after 20min of run time.
The guy I got the motor from said it falls off to half throttle after 20min's of running. Also where is a good place to get another trim solenoid?

Re: '85 115

For the trim solenoid, try this website (iboats), www.outboardparts.com, or www.seilermarine.com (i know he carries all the ignition components for sure).

The 105 does stick out, but the 110 does as well. All cylinders should be within 10% of each other. 125*10%=12.5... Your lowest should be 125-12.5= 112,113.

I would start with a decarb and hope you get lucky, you could have tons of carbon build up whick could lead to stuck rings.... in the end, lower your compression.

Get a aersol can of seafoam deep creep or mercury power tune. You might even run a can of seafoam (just regular, not deep creep) in to your fuel tank as well.

-andy

Re: '85 115

Sounds good, the motor hasn't ran in a while. The test where done cold witht he throttle closed, I read another post later. The fall on its face problem has been narrowed down to 1 of the switch boxes. What's the difference's between them? Its going to be a few weeks before I even try to crank it up. I still have to clean the tank, finish polishing the boat and rewire it. Install carpet and tons more. This is on a 15' skeeter bass boat, is it to much motor? Thanx for the parts site's as well.

Re: '85 115

According to seilermarine, my serial #
A191502 falls under the 135-150 xr2/mag '87-up. I was told it was a '85 115. Is there a serial # on the power head that will be more accurate? Thanx again.

Re: '85 115

the serial number should be a mounting brackets on the starboard side of the engine. Also check www.maxrules.com for the serial number/year question.

Word from the wise, replace both switchboxes at the same time. A bad one can damage the other.

Re: '85 115

The best I can figure from maxrules is that it's a '85 150 elpto xr2. Serial #'s starting with A114514. Now I know I'm overpowered.

Re: '85 115

You definately have a 115 according to the Mercury parts express web site.

This has got me confused to, I thought all post '79's were ADI ignition. Yet the serial number on Max's chart says it's a '86.

Good Luck
