First off this is a great site, this is my first post. I'm looking at trading for a 115 merc that looses power after 20min's of running. The guy told me he had the carbs rebuilt, new stator, power pack, plugs wires and water pump. It has good compression, but I don't have the numbers. Can I run a compression check with the motor on the ground with the pull rope? Thanx for the help.

I've been wrong a few times here, but let's start with 115 HP and a starter rope.

Do you have one ?

If not,get the engine vertical, and use a battery.

DHP

No pull start on the 115. The '85-'88 115's were the pick of the litter though. Great motors.

The 20 minute thing sounds like a thermal intermittant somwhere in the ignition, or a fuel restriction (tank vent?).
