Had the boat out for the first time this summer last weekend. Boat fired up like usual, put it in the water and boat would go forward, as usual. After putting boat in forward, I can't go back to neutral or reverse. I can move the control back to neutral position, but boat will continue to slowly inch forward. When I shift control to reverse position, boat will behave as if in forward position. I can only go back to neutral if I turn boat off and then restart it, it will stay in neutral as long as I don't shift control into forward or reverse position.

Is this a cables problem....or possibly something more?

Thanks in Advance for any replies...

Re: '84 Sea Ray BR-No Reverse

Is it OMC equipped? Mine is and I have the same problems. I have had new cables installed by my mechanic and I have had it back 2 times for adjustments. The problem is that there is an interrupter/killswitch? that momentarily stalls the motor so that it can shift in and out of gear. There are 2 tiny swithes that you can check to see if they need cleaned or you can adjust the cables. I gave up on the constant adjusting and I just turn of the boat if it isn't responding for me (sometimes I have no problems). I have also heard of others installing a manual killswitch for this very problem. Good luck, especially if it is OMC.
