Considering to attempt some reapairs on an 84' OMC sea drive. When the parts manual states "20inch or 25inch transom models", where is that measurement taken from. Any help would be appreciated. Also, any good resources out there for these engines?

the seadrives were the 25 in shaft, which is a long shaft, you dont have a transom mount engine due to its design,it can be converted by removingthe seadrive bracket assy, and installing a standard bracket assy, but requires removal of powerhead ,its a bit of a job,if your thinking of installing a new type bracket and want to use your engine, rather than change yours, you can buy a mid section and bracket assy from a salvage yard and mount your powerhead and your lowerunit, you will need to cange a few throttle and shift mecanisms as wellas intake

You may have to hunt a bit but there are OMC Service and Parts manuals for these SeaDrives. The SeaDrive units are quite complex and the manuals are excellent and detailed. Sorry I forgot where I got mine. I have a pair of 1987s & have had no problems with the SeaDrive assemblies. The powerhead is the same as the non SeaDrive units for the most part.
