84 Mercury

Can anyone tell me what the gold canister is that is by my fuel pump? It has some sort of adjustment for gas. I know it is probably a dumb question but..............

It is not the filter. It is also hooked up to a power source of some type but it has gas hooked up also.

Sorry. 115 Horsepower Merc. It has an adjustment screw in the top with a spring on it. I will try and get more info after work.
