Howdy guys,

Question: How does one remove the spring loaded clutch dog on this motor? I've got the prop shaft and such out, of course.

#2 Forward gear is holding fine, but reverse is ratcheting in the water although it goes in smooth on the muffs with no water resistance.
Is it possible/cheap/easy to machine the dog edges flat to get it back to working? I was hoping to buy a new clutch dog, but machine the gear ears back to a right angle, if it was possible.

I know, I'm a rotten cheapster, but dang these gears and clutches are high, even on ebay.
Thanks,
JBJ

Re: '84 merc 25xd clutch and gears question

After removing the pin retainer put the shift pin back in the shaft and push it on the bench or something and push the cross pin out.
2. Any good machine shop can recut the gear and dog
