What causes this? mabey old gas from not being run last year? mabey the oil seal for the lower unit? What to do???? mabey a total of 10 - 15 drops.....any help? Thanks in advance. Rich

Usually this is unburned oil dripping down from the exhaust cavity and quite normal. To be sure check for water in the grar case. If it is milky in color replace the o rings for the fill and drain plug, change the oil, run it and check again. If it is still milky you will need to replace one or more seals.

so you think its ok to take her on a short run like it is (30 mins?) and check her when I get in? or just run it a few mins again at the hose?

and if its from exhaust why would only be comming out of the prop area instead of both the prop AND the 2 exhaust holes near the engine cover?

What color is the oil? Black? or milky? If its black its most likely unburnt fuel mixed with carbon running down the exhaust. If its milky its most likely from the LU. Check the oil level in the LU.

its black...totally black. It just seemed a bit much to me to not be from the lower unit somewhere. I will check the lower unit level tomorrow when its light out just to be sure.

Yep, my 84 90 horse did the same thing. Everytime I used to go to the garage I had a little pool of black crap under the prop. I seafoam my motor twice a year and it helped the situation. Its a combo of unburned fuel and built up carbon in the exhaust housing. It sure is nasty looking.

Seafoam is additive for your gas.It will clean your fuel system and also clean out the carbon in your engine. It is very good and runs about 6 bucks a can.Autozone,Advance,Napa should have it.
You might also want to decarbon your engine with some BRP engine tuner. My engine used to have a low speed miss.Between the engine tuner and Seafoam it runs great now.
