84 Evinrude 140 VRO gear/throttle controls??

Help!! The engine and throttle controls on the console on my 84 Evinrude 140 VRO were difficult to operate. It has trim/tilt on side of control which operate perfectly. I disassembled the controls at the handle on the console, found them in need of seriuos lubrication. lubricated and re-assembled now the gears/throttle are harder to operate and very difficult to find neutral in order to start engine. Both cables appear to be in good condition at both ends. Please help if possible.<br /><br />I have ordered the Evinrude repair manuals which will arrive next week but will be to late for this weeks Trout Tourny.<br /><br />Thanks in advance for your assistance!!!<br /><br />Tommy D

You should look at manual in case you made a mistake re-assemblying remote control.<br />But, try to disconnect cables at remote, if it gets easier to move, you have a cable problems. Also while cables are free at both ends you can try to move them back and forth by hand, they should slide easily.<br />Usually cable problems occur inside cables, not ends.
