84 black max 150

hello all new to the forum.. ive got a 84 mercury black max 150.. the boat doesnt have a temp gauge.. and i would really like to have one.. i was just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction were to put the temp sensor.. and i dont even know if these boats would have like a mechanical gauge or like a 12v set up.. im pretty familiar with both from the auto side of things ... thanks for the help with the NEWBIE...

On my 135 Blackmax the temp gauge sensor is installed in a pocket about 1/3 the way down the port cylinder head. There is an overtemp switch fitted in the same position on the starboard cylinder head.
This is a mercury original part although the wire to the instrument cluster is a single wire, not part of the regular wiring loom.

To continue the discourse. That temp sender wire reappears in the dasboard harness. A Mercury compatible gauge will have instructions for hooking it up.

ok thanks guys!... im "hopefully" going to the boat shop today..
