Hi,
I just installed a tach to see what the motor was turning. The battery I was using won't hold a charge for more than a day, so I know it is bad. When I started it, tach worked fine. Planed the boat and ran WOT for 45 seconds. Tached @ 5800. All of a sudden the tach climbed until peged past 7000. The motors RPMs NEVER increased, so I know the tach was wrong. 15 seconds later the motor began to loose RPMs, not completely die, but slowed alot. Then went back up, then down, then up etc. I tried the choke to see if it was a lean issue, but that didn't make any difference. Went back to the dock and shut it down. Tried to restart it, but the batt. was gone.

Would a bad battery do all this? I am going to get a new one anyway, but I thought once the engine started, the battery condition didn't matter.

HELP !!!
Thanks,
Keith
