84 150 hp broken drive shaft

The drive shaft on my 84 150 vro snapped at the water pump, I'm told this is common . My question is the newer models have a two piece drive shaft could I swap one of those on my motor if so what year can I use , and would I have to change anything else. Thanks for your help.

You cannot buy the one piece shafts any more for the V4 and V6 motors. They are all 2 piece. Your original part number will supercede to the new style.

thanks I'm looking for a used shaft first. but at least I know that I can still get parts.
