Ready to mount trim/tilt pump assembly (tall vertical style) after cleaning and repainting, was a basket case when I got it so not aware of how it was originally mounted.....
two areas with questions.........

There are 6 (2 sets of 3) 1/4 inch holes for mounting....does this little pump NEED 6-1/4" lags to keep it stable? I was thinking 4-12x1" stainless pan head type screws.....is this sufficient?

The pump had 4 to 5 feet of power cabling, (Pos and Neg) wrapped around the motor of the pump. I can see no need for more than 2 feet for connection as it is right next to the battery......Is there a reason not to shorten the wires on this pump? Will it affect operations negatively?

It looks like a simple solution to reduce the amount of "wiring clutter"......I only wish I could easily cut off the extra 4 feet from the main harness instead of trying to find a neat way to deal with the excess......

Thanks, all comments and ideas are appreciated......

Howdy,

I did the same thing with mine in my Fourwinns 211 Liberator.

Absolutely. The pump only needs to be secure. If you're going into solid wood, you should use wood type lag screws but they don't need to be 6" long.....I'll bet the previous installer just grabbed what was available!

Yeah that drives me crazy. The previous installer was just plain LAZY!! The wires should be a short as possible. you can "ADEL" clamp them to the transom and make a nice clean installation.

That will be a little harder.

Again the previous installer was lazy. when I installed mine, I started at the engine and worked toward the front cutting off excess when I got to the instrument panel!

Thanks Rick,

I was hoping that LOGIC would apply here (shortening the cabling)......I am afraid that the last installer was the boat manufacturer.....not the only place that LAZY has been noticed I can tell you....I have put corrugated wire looms on all the wires and even though the main harness is too long it looks more organized now...a bit more wiring in the engine compartment and I will be able to start the interior...won't hit the water this year but it will be ready when boating weather returns in the spring......

Thanks again
