This motor ran fine one weekend & not at all the next. I have bought new plugs, gapped them accordinly, Changed the fuel lines & installed a new in-line filter between the pump & carb. I've pulled the carb & cleaned the bowl & needle. The plugs seem to be sparking strong. I don't quite know what to do next. What's involved with checking the CDI ? Is it something that I could do myself, there are no Suzuki dealers near by where I live, Rochester, NY. Any & all ideas appreciated.

Rob -

RobertMartin, don't know what all besides float and needle valve was inspected when you removed carbs ,however the pickup tubes in bowls are most likely cause of restriction. Also, any and all fixed orifices. If you have good spark to all cylinders unit should fire.Insure spark is strong enough to jump 7/16 gap with bright blue color.

Well, ... it started. I checked the plugs as you noted & The spark was plenty strong to bridge the 7/16" gap. I'm suspecting some bad gas at this point. I let it run for about 30min & I'll try it again tomorrow. One last thing... I've been running the motor with 89 octane gas, does it make much sence to use a more premium gas, say 92 or 94 ? Additionally, I've been running the motor at a 50:1. Would it make much difference to run it at 100:1 ? Suzuki suggests 100:1, but I was advised against it & that's why I had been running 50:1.

Thanks for the help.

r -

Robert, there is much debate on whether higher octane fuels are of any performance benefit in two stroke outboards that have comparitively low compression than their high compression auto four stroke counterparts.A good fresh regular unleaded fuel is generally sufficient. As to the 100:1 mixing ratios of oil to fuel, that is a new one by me.The only 100:1 figures I am familiar with is that of a automatic oiling system that varies ratio depending upon speed of motor.100:1 at low speed and 50:1 at WOT.Unless someone else like JB Corwell or the like can touch on this ratio as it pertains to your Suzuki, I recommend mixing at 50:1 .1 pint per 6.25 gal of fuel.

That's the same advice I received from a mechanic last summer. I'll keep to the 89 octane @ 50:1.

Thanks.

r -
