While trying to remove the lowere unit from my 1983 15hp Johnson the drive shaft came out of the lower unit instead of the power head. The drive shaft is firmly stuck in the power head any ideas on how to get it out?

HI Kenbe11, Your best option is to remove the powerhead and turn it upside down. Apply a good penetrating oil to the driveshaft where it goes into the crankshaft. You will probably have to let it soak a few days. I put visegrips on the driveshaft in a location not to damage the waterpump or bushing areas and tapped on it with a hammer, don't tap too hard you could bend the shaft. Sometimes I have heated the driveshaft and let it cool a few times and that helped. In the worse case, I have cut the drivesheft and drilled thru the center of it and tapped the hole and used a puller to remove the piece of the shaft and install a new driveshaft. Hope this helps.
