'83 Johnson 140, starving for fuel top end?

Carbs just 'semi' professionally rebuilt. Idle & midrange is fine but just when ya start really hooking up? Pfft!

Back off the throttle a lil'n everything's good again. Almost like it has a rev limiter though I'm relatively sure it doesn't.

Ideas?

What do you mean by "Pfft"? Does is bog or sneeze or what? Has carb been link-n-synced?

If the engine still has original power packs they are not rev limited. Any factory replacements are rev limited at 5800. Are the carbs original to the engine? You may be running out of fuel. If you constantly prime the fuel hose bulb can you get the engine to run consistently at WOT?
