I have a chance to purchase a 1983 150 Black Max for a decent price. First the motor has a ton of new parts and was always dealer serviced. The only problem is it's a 25 inch lower end and our Wellcraft V-20 uses a 20 inch the man who says the spacer could be removed and shorted with a shorter drive shaft, How much work is involed in doing this? And all so he says all the cylinders compression is between 110-115 psi I will check it before buying it. It come with all the harnesses and controls ang gauges for 800.00 he bought a new outboard from the marina I deal with . What else should I beware of I'm a OMC guy and never owned a Merc.........Thanks

It will cost more money to convert to 20" than the motor is worth.

I have no idea what it would cost to change to 20" but they are good motors. I have one and it still runs good.

Hi Blu Lunch, it is very easy to convert from a 20" transim to a 25".

Get two, 4" angle steel lines aprox. 20" long, let it extend 5" past the transim and bolt the motor on. Then the motor will stick out 5" higher from the transit but will work great and will only cost you a few bucks.

I have done this same this with great results....
