I was looking at a 83 chrysler that has been sitting in a barn for many years. I know it needs new plugs, a new impellor, a fuel pump rebuild, and a lower end lube change but are there other things I should be looking at? should I run it like a new motor with 2x the oil ? thanks also does the oil in the tilt trim need to be changed also ?? thanks again

Probably need to rebuild the carb(s).

Spray some oil in the dry cylinders before starting.

Running on slightly heavier oil for a few hours would be a good idea.

Definitely rebuild the fuel pump with a kit from NAPA and run 24-1 oil for couple of hours too.

1. Rebuild carbs and fuel pump.
2. Replace impeller and thermostat.
3. Tighten all head bolts to spec.(you need to get a manual)
4. Change the lower unit oil.
5. Spray oil in cylinders and rotate engine with starter for 5 seconds. Spray more oil into cylinders. Let it set overnight.
6. Replace sparkplugs.
7. Replace all fuel lines.
8. If sparkplug wires look good and no cracks they should be fine.
9. lubricate all moving parts like hinges, steering tube, throttle linkages.
10. Wipe it all down and blow all dust out off engine and in hood.
11. Run 20:1 for 1 gallon then 40:1 for 5 more gallons. Then 50:1.
Good luck!

Also being in a barn, inspect the wireing for mouse damage.

There's also a bellows hose a few inches under the cylinder head that they like to chew on. If that leaks, exhaust fills the area under the hood and the motor starves for oxygen and lacks power or dies. Then there's that ever-fragrant smell of mouse ****. A good cleaning with a degreaser usually handles that.
