Here is down the cylinder wall

Pulled crank out and here is no. 6 Piston

here is the other side of the piston

Apparently the keeper ring on the Pin crapped out. The bottom ring and top rings are broken.

Can this powerhead block be saved? ...
DSCN1906.jpg

Oh and another thing... one of the Crank Pins was installed out of alignment, and the pin hole was wallowed out.. just slightly.

I don't think so :( Those groves look way too deep to bore out and replace with an oversized piston. I will be it is more then 60 over to get the grooves out.

Yes a sleeve might be available but finding a machine shop to do the boring is another thing......... they require a machine and a person who has done them before.

You can fix anything. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

Location is everything.-----I know of places where these motors ( near complete ) can be picked up for $150.00 for rebuilding.-Likely do not need to be sleeved either.

That cylinder will need re-sleeved and the expense of re-sleeving and machining is costly. I charge $350 to re-sleeve a inline as these have cast in sleeves. You have to bore existing cylinder to new sleeve OD,heat block and slip in sleeve, then you have to blend the intake/exhaust ports and then bore to standard size. The you need to mike the other cylinders to see if cylinder is worn around ports(95% usually are) and the they will need to be bored @$45 a hole. Then you will need 5 oversize pistons and gaskets, bearings, seals ,etc, etc. Racer pm me the location/contacts as I would like to purchase a couple of ADI blocks!!!!!

I got back from machine shop 1 hr ago. he can go .040 over, with some non-mercury piston. Machinist doubts it would clean up even at .040.. $375 to sleeve if it doesn't clean up. honestly, those are very deep. And Have to buy his piston, at $121, but would include rings for the that one. then rings for the rest.

racerone - i tried the PM,to you but forum says you are not accepting PMs. pm me and i can provide email.

In a nutshell I do my parts motor shopping where --1- the dealers are very busy.--2 the season is short.---3 The clientelle has ample money for new motors.----4 the folks need new motors to get to summer homes on islands.-----Good deals to be had if you know where to shop.

Its not knowing where to shop . Its just being close to that sort of situation. Try living somewhere where

1. There are few dealers and they dont sell much of anything.
2. The season is long but it rains most of the time.
3. The clientele is all fishermen. Cheap fishermen.
4. Whats a summer home?

Deals almost never present themselves.

I would just like to get ahold of some 115 ADI blocks as they(empty blocks) are dried up in TN. You can get the complete motor but I wont put out 4-500 doolars for one.

OK .. I removed #6 piston from the rod.
HOW MANY roller bearings in the wrist pin... I Have 29 and 1/8.. 7/8 of one roller is gone. Also 1 wrist pin keeper is gone and a dent in the reed block.
Also someone went to great expense with new pistons and rings, there is no wear on the skirts.
Can i get the rollers, or do those come with the piston, along with new wrist pin? Notice the little black spot in the photo between the pins and the piston base.

The book shows 174 of those needles in a 6 cylinder motor.

racerone... 174/6 is 29... So i looked closely at the piece of material.. it is a different diameter than the rollers.
since i have 29... i am ok there on the count. the piece has to be off the wrist pin keeper that is entirely missing.

DSCN1919.jpg
also... close inspection of reed block show dent the size of the wrist pin keeper
