82' Evinrude 70 stutters at wide open, takeoff

I have a 1982 Evinrude 70, that idles fine, and runs fine at half throttle. At takeoff, it hiccups a couple of times, and stutters intermittently at wide open. And, I don't think it's quite turning up full throttle. I have rebuilt the carbs, replaced the plugs, new fuel tank/lines. The timing arm moves freely. The motor would only idle before I built the carbs. Anyone got any suggestions?

Sounds like you may need a link and sync.

I assume you're talking about the carbs...the butterflys appear to be shut and wide open together, but I don't know if that's an accurate enough assessment. Could you tell me more? I know more about motorcycle single carb setups than outboards. I've heard of syncing, just not sure what it entails.

Get a good manual and it will take you step by step through the procedure. Just don't get in a hurry and pretend that "that's close enough".
