82 black max 150 wont run just plows through the water at full throttle

No idea what it could be. It will idle and rev up in neutral but will not get up andtake off. It did this the other day for a minute than shot up out of the hole an ran great all day. Now it wont run good. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks and God bless.

Check spark as sounds like stator bad on one side......

Could be as simple as a fouled spark plug......

Definitely not plugs. Replaced those when its out of water you can give it gas an it'll take it. But you put it under a load an it won't. Maybe power pack?

put it on the muffs. Disconnect the throttle linkage at the carbs/efi. Connect a timing light to #1. Start it up. Pull the advance linkage in so it revs up without opening the throttle plates. If it starts cutting out over 1800 ish you have a bad high speed stator coil. Try it on the other bank. if it cuts out at high speed, your other high speed coil is bad.

Revs up just fine and takes gas out of the river just fine but when you put it in the river it wont get up an take off. Has good conpression starts up cranks easy and idles well but will NOT get up an go under a load.

Did you check the stator? Are the carbs clean?

It will run and rev fine on 3 cylinders....

Check compression and then id say prop hub

CDI Electronics Practical Outboard Ignition Troubleshooting

Next, get your hands on a DVA Meter or a DVA Adapter to use with any Volt/Ohm meter, and a remote starter button or a helper to turn the key.

Pull the plugs and ground all the wires (so there is no errant sparks) to save the starter and battery, and start testing the triggers and the stator, following the detailed instructions from CDI. They have written a VERY usful guide covering most ALL outboard motors from many manufacturers.
