I just got this boat, and an new as of a few weeks ago to boating and this forum. I hace a 82 16'ski barge with the 82 mariner 50 hp. I got the boat ran very bad. The boat cut off and would not start back up. Checked the carbs, fuel lines, fuel filter, gas tank, bulb, plugs. Was getting no spark tracked it down to the switch box. Now the boat runs ok, but doesn't seen to be very fast. I'm friend has a johnson 60 same size boat. He said it runs like a 30 hp. I have a few questions.<br /><br />1. My friend said that it sound like the hub is spinning every few minutes at higher speeds what checked the prop it's a stainless steel 14, is this right for this engine?<br /><br />2. Would a new aluminum prop give me more speed? the stainless is very heavy. The one they sell for my engine at the shop it a 10.<br /><br />3. What else could it be? at WOT it slows down, at 3/4 it runs good, but not fast. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I do have the service manual.
