82 35 hp thermostat

this is the 2nd time in 2 years i had the head gasket blow from overheating due to thermostat freezing up from salt deposits.
of course i flush it out carefully after each use. i'm in so calif. is it really necessary to put another thermostat back in this time??

if you want your motor to run correctly, yes. the motor was designed to run at a certain temperature. leaving it out, it will run cold, causing poor performance, carbon build up, and excessive wear on the motor.

are you running the motor on muffs, until the tstat opens, and circulates all the way thru. you may need to start using a product called "salt away".

i have been using muffs, usually for about 5 minutes or so. think that's enough to open it up ?i'll look for salt away. thanks.
