The subject line says it all. The motor runs good with the cover on until I open it up. When I take the cover off it only runs at about half speed. I checked for pinched hoses and wires but everything seemed fine.
I read somewhere it could be an exhaust gasket? Is this a hard job to tackle?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

It is a model E8cic

By saying "open it up" I mean giving it the gas to go wide open throttle.
Is that what you mean by opposite?

I kinda read it like BB ke-4rocket. With the cover on, your only getting about half speed? With the cover off, it goes full bore....that right?

That can happen if the engine is breathing it's own exhaust. This is usually caused by a blown power head adaptor gasket. Fairly easy to change on the small engines. Just disconnect all the fuel line, throttle linkage, any adjustment knobs on the carb, remove the powerhead retaining bolts and it should pop off.

that's the part that seems opposite... shouldn't it run good with the cover off?

Yes that is right. If it is that easy I might as well give it a shot but I better get a manual first. It is the perfect motor for my little 12 foot fishing boat.
Thanks for the help.
