Lake Rat,<br /><br />Do a search on this board, in the I/O section, using the words: "Merc. 470", "Merc. 485", "Mercuiser 3.7 L".<br /><br />There has been a lot of discussion lately on these.
Do the search as suggested....and here's a few quick hits.<br /><br />Charging system - stator and water cooled voltage regulator continuously a problem.<br />Cooling system - tends to run hot, regularly replace water pump impeller in lower unit for proper cooling.<br /><br />You'll find more....but mechanically the engine's very good.
